Why 50 singles? How about you do 5 or 10 and explain why they are in your list. Listing 50 is like listing every song on the air (or whatever) right now... -Mat
 
not really, hundreds of songs have already charted this year. 50 may seem like a large number and not very selective, but it is. this is just a running tally. i explain my opinions in album reviews enough that I don't feel the need to reiterate them to justify a placeholder list. i'll probably explain why things are on my year-end list in 6 months, though.
 
mediocre at best
 
if you're saying my taste is mediocre, then sure, boohoo. but I should add the caveat that my enthusiasm about most of the stuff on either list is lukewarm at best, so I'm not really giving anything a ringing endorsement, just keeping track of what I like so far.
