Billboard recently unveiled a big big project called The Greatest Pop Star By Year (1981-2019). I wrote the sections about 1987 (Bon Jovi's year) and 2008 (Lil Wayne's year) as well as an essay about music videos in 1997, but the whole thing is full of good stuff by writers I love, highly recommend taking a look through it.
