This week we've got the first installment of the Total Ship Show Music Break, a 30-minute audio-only episode on Soundcloud where Zac and I each play three songs and talk a bit about them, which we're going to try and do now and then going forward. My Top 522 Singles of the 1980s

I have previously made lists of my 522 favorite singles of the 1990s, the 2000s, and the 2010s. My rationale is that there are roughly 522 weeks in a decade, and I love the idea that a great song, a great popular single on the charts that will stand the test of time, comes out at least once a week, all year every year, and has continuously throughout our lifetimes. A lot of people subscribe to the mentality that a great pop song comes out every once in a while and it's this shining exception to a lot of bullshit that nobody needs to hear, but I don't feel that way at all. 

There are 520 songs in my mammoth 38-hour Spotify playlist. Salt-N-Pepa's "I'll Take Your Man" and Vanity 6's "Nasty Girl" are the two songs that aren't on Spotify. Salt-N-Pepa are in a legal battle for control of their master recordings and I wish them luck. Vanity 6 somehow slipped between the cracks when a lot of the albums by Prince's proteges went on streaming services after he died. I put the whole thing on shuffle yesterday and had such a ball dancing around my house, I highly recommend it.
